When it comes to why, I think what happened is that Sadako was making revisions, and every time those revisions were submitted, Lia intercepted them, revised them HER way, and entered them as Sadako's revisions. True, Lia COULD have just done her own thing, and ad libbed it all, but why not use convenient revisions to help cover your tracks?carl-E wrote:Yes! I think I mentioned this in the cbox - the only way it makes sense is that Lia was doing all the rewrites to get the script to agree with her lines! That way, she could say what she wanted, and get around the original plot of Sarah falling in love with Fi. Lucy probably feels guilty because she know all along - playing Sarah, she was probably paid off by Lia, and has led Fi on this wild goose chase.
But the questions still stands - WHY?!?!?
BYW, it's less 1920's than it is 19-oughts; the book, poster and outfit are very art-nouveau. I loved the oxidation (darkening) on the folded cover, it looked so real. How'd you do that, Megan?
carl-E wrote:Lia gave up everything to be with Sadako. Then Sadako dumps her but for some reason she can't go back (what happens if you die while in a coma?)
She works her way into Fi's dream and falls for her, and Fi falls for Lia. But Lia knows they can't stay together, or Fi will die/stay comatose forever. Doesn't want that for someone she loves.
I'm really hoping Lia convinces Fi to go back to the real world and find love. It sucks when you lose love, but that's part of life, and there's still love for you to find.
Doesn't make it any easier, though, and as I recall we're being told this story from Don's point of view...so maybe Fiona perfects the "waking dream"?
Just rambling, avoiding work, nothing to see here, move along...

(I might very well be making it up, because I read that somewhere close to a year and a half ago.) If it was true, and someone can confirm my faulty memory, then I imagine the first 200 pages or so that principle is true (or at least the sections where it seems like some omnipotent being is commenting upon the situation).
Gracefulfallen wrote:In all seriousness though substitute "Sadako" with "Queen of the Faeries" and it reminds you a lot of the tales of young men and women bewitched by the charms and beauty of the faeries. They (Lia) are carried off, never to return to our world, forced to do the Faerie's bidding for all eternity...
I imagine it's a real possibility that Lia found out Sadako was trying to lure another young woman permanently into the dream world. Having already been through this, and knowing how much she hates it, I imagine Lia probably finally rebelled against Sadako and decided to help this person escape this. However, in the process she found herself falling in love with Fi.
Am I crazy? (I love wild theories.)

Most of the documentary I've watched seemed to show that Japanese civilians had very little knowledge of what's actually going on out there. It's actually kinda sad that most of them never heard, let alone saw, the face of Hirohito. Hm... whether or not Japanese are familiar with the term "axis", or their relationship with Italy and Germany back then is something I'm questioning...
But wait, Sadako existed well before Lia. Has she been overseeing what's going on with the world?
