wierd dream today. There was a water shortage, so everyone went to celebration cinema to play video games. Only they were damn serious about their videogames. Then one of the video games, a space-ship fps halo type thing, incorporated itself into the dream, so now space militia were coming to celebration cinema to play videogames. And then I went on a space ship, and all of a sudden I was Homer Simpson, and Lisa was there. We were each trapped on a precarious stack of junk in a swamp of poison purple stuff, and I was trying to get to her, but there was this big purple squid type thing that kept knocking down the stack of whatever I was standing on. Meanwhile there's a huge space ship thing floating above the piles of junk for miles around, shooting stuff with its laser which was NOT helpful. that's that dream.

More than once I've dreamed about a really fancy movie theater with a really elegant and complex floor plan. Also, my Grandma used to live in Oscoda, so sometimes I dream about fictional parts of the town that aren't really there, but are really pretty and have awesome shops and everyone is super nice. When I was in high school and struggling with my sexuality I would have dreams of being in the school locker room, only it wasn't the school locker room, it was some epic locker room that was in the school, it changed all the time, but all the boys I thought were hot would be showering there, but they would always call me out before I got a good look at them and I'd leave and wander the school, or else wake up. Sometimes the locker room would be in a mall or a gym or something. Another dream I have a lot is of an amazing mall with a bookstore that has a totally awesome porn section catering entirely to my fancies. One time the bookstore was in an epic Target store located at the end of a hedge maze at disney world. Almost always in most of my dreams my family is there, and sometimes my friends. My dreams are always really out there, but in the strangest ways (i.e., a porn section in a Target that is at the end of a hedge maze in Disney World). I almost always know I'm dreaming, but if I try to control myself in the dream I wake up, so i just hang along for the ride. Sometimes they have amazing stories that make me cry and laugh and feel all sorts of emotions, but I can never remember them when I wake up (except this one about a boy looking for his fox friend, which I will someday adapt into a children's book).

Wow. Long post. Hope you've enjoyed it :P

wow, thats actually pretty crazy that some of you have fallen for a literal dream lover. What a Face
i for one have NEVER done that before,
all my dreams that involve love are about people i know, just acting exactly how i want them to in real life, or how i absolutely don't want them to. lol

has anyone ever had a LUCID DREAM?

i have them pretty frequently - i think it has alot to do with a person, and what it means about you're personality.
obviously dreaming is about the subconscious mind, and the way you deal with the situations means something about who you are. but lucid dreams reach beyond that, where conscious and subconscious meet. F R E A K Y !

in some ways i think yume is a lucid dream. at least i hope it is, anyways Surprised

My dreams are populated with about one-half people I know in waking life, and one-half people I don't know. With a tiny percentage made up of real people who have died.

One thing about my dreams is they always tell me exactly how I feel about people I know. Especially when I'm upset with someone. It's hard for me to recognize when I'm angry, but if I dream I meet someone and I start screaming at them, chances are good that I truly am angry at them in real life. Dreams also help me realize when I have a crush on someone. It's not like I depend on them for guidance, but if I happen to remember feelings I had in a dream, they usually turn out to be true.

@Futch: Wow, your dreams are nuts too! <3 Fun. Dreams can be a fantastic source of inspiration; I've had so many that would make great stories. Coincidentally, a lot of them involve foxes. They're one of my favorite animals.

@billy: Oh yes, I've had lucidity. Not so many complete lucid dreams, because usually I accidentally wake myself up right after I go lucid.
I've never been able to "make" myself go lucid; it just happens sometimes. It took me a long time to figure out how to use my lucidity, too. Supposedly, for most people, all they have to do is concentrate on something and their dream changes. But noooo, when I tried that, I always woke up! Eventually I hit on a way to control my dreams when I'm lucid: narration. I have to narrate my own lucid dreams, telling the story as it happens. It's kind of a bother and sometimes it gets me in trouble with Management (I'll tell the story of that dream later, because this post is getting long). For others who lucid dream, how do you control it? Do you just concentrate and stuff happens, or what?

@TJ. Yes, I love foxes too! I just wrote a short story (1st draft, anyway) in which a fox pup plays an integral part. Also, I friggin love your avatar. Just saying. I love YU+ME to death, but Calvin and Hobbes will forever be the best comic ever in my eyes. When I have a son I want him to be just like Calvin. I think I'd do a better job with him than Calvin's parents. :P

I'd say about half my dreams are "lucid" or become lucid at some point. I've experienced the same thing as you, TJ, where becoming conscious of the fact that I'm dreaming would cause me to wake up almost immediately. Eventually that seemed to stop happening, but then when I'd try to exert active, conscious control over my dreams, I'd wake up shortly thereafter. The way I ended up dealing with that problem was to not try too hard to control the dreams, but to guide them a bit and become part of them again. I've found I can change one "rule" of the dream (flight is a common one for me), or invent one "event" for the dream, without fear of waking up, and then just drift back into it, giving up lucidity to prevent waking up prematurely.

The fun thing is, since I started lucid dreaming, I haven't had any nightmares worth mentioning. Something might start as a nightmare...for example, my boss comes in and tells me I haven't been doing my job properly in some bizarre way, and then I decide, "nope, don't want to deal with this," dive out the window, and fly to Cozumel. And then the rest of the dream is about trying to sell my work clothes to pay for scuba gear that ends up being made of chocolate, or something. Very Happy Okay, yes, my dreams can be really stupid.

I've just realized something. In all of me dreams (except the naughty ones) I have a really strong sense of purpose, but I always wake up before I accomplish my goal. The more I think about it, the more I think I deliberately wake myself up before accomplishing whatever it is I must do. This could be a profound insight into my life... hmmm...

Everest: Cool. That happens to me sometimes, too - kicking lucidity down a notch after I do something with it. (Oddly, flying is usually what triggers me to become lucid, not the other way around.) Going with the flow definitely helps me stay asleep longer, but it also leads to some pretty silly dreams, as you mentioned. xD I am well-acquainted with stupid dreams, lemme tell you.

I once dreamed I was sent to military school, and I was nervous because I had a stress disorder that caused me to turn into a duck when I was upset. Naturally, I turned into a duck on the first day of training and was banned from all future combat, because: "The military doesn't want people who quack under pressure."

Yes. My dreams are fond of awful puns.

Futch: Awww, that's great. Foxes are awesome. Last summer I discovered a den of five kits and their mother living behind my house. It was wonderful. In my dreams, foxes often play the part of friend, teacher, and messenger. When I was little, I had an invisible friend who was a fox a lot of the time.
And thank you. x3 This avatar makes me happy. Calvin&Hobbes has always been my favorite comic. I agree, I'd love to raise a kid like Calvin. The high rates of property value depreciation would be worth it.
About you always waking up right before you accomplish something... no, I'm sure that can't be symbolic or meaningful at all. No way. /sarcasm xD Actually, I do that too, to some extent. But I usually don't have a purpose at all. Don't know which is worse, frankly.

I had a really unpleasant dream this morning.

I was a young girl, very heavily pregnant, and I knew I was about to go into labor. Trouble was, I was far from home and I did NOT want to go to a hospital. So I was searching desperately for a quiet, private place to give birth, but there were people everywhere I went except for bathrooms, and I refused to give birth in there, either. Some of the buildings I went into included a Catholic church during mass, Possum Lodge during a meeting (lol, anyone watch the Red Green Show?), and a school during classes. It was horrible. Some of the people I met were really nice, and they kept trying to talk to me about the baby, but no one seemed to care that I was going into labor.

At some point I realized that my stomach had gone down and I must have already given birth. But because I didn't do it right, my baby had vanished. While I was looking for it, I felt something cold and hard in my hand. It was a tiny jade figurine of the Buddha. Then I realized that my baby hadn't disappeared; it had turned into this figurine.

I woke up feeling very shaken.

I had a dream the other night that kinda... I don't know how to explain it, but it got me very emotional when I woke up.

All I remember is being on the phone with my Granny, who passed away a couple months ago, and it wasn't really her, alive, but it was her spirit on the phone, she was telling me that everything would be ok, and that's she's fine where she is, and that she's watching over me and my siblings.

I was never really close with her, she's actually my brother and sister's granny. Their dad's mom. Though I did know her from when I was 3, she treated me like an actual grandchild until my sister and then brother came along, then I was cast aside by her.

When she passed I didn't feel very sad, I mean I will miss her, but I knew that day was coming soon, she was 80something years old and smoked a pack a day.

And I just remember BAWLING in my dream after I got off the phone, just all out bawling.

Okay, I just had a dream that was coherent enough to be shared. Be warned, my dreams are insanely weird, overly complex, and frighteningly long.

First, it might help if you have seen the Watchmen movie (or read the comic). This dream was clearly inspired in part by my just recently seeing the movie.

In my dream, it's the modern day, but Nixon remains president. Also he is somehow no older than he was in his term during the Vietnam War. Now, however, he's the one overseeing the US's present war in the Middle East. I was called in as the recently elected Ambassador of Peace (a position that is very important in the United States of my dream) to try to persuade him to end the conflicts that he keeps getting the nation into. I sit down at the end of a long table, opposite Nixon, who is surrounded by his Council of War. (Apparently he created the Council of War for the express purpose of countering the power of the Ambassador of Peace). Just as I begin to explain my argument, he interrupts me with laughter, and the rest of the Council begin laughing with him. I cannot make myself heard over the cacophony, no matter how loudly I shout. Eventually, the laughter dies down, and Nixon leans over the table and asks me, "Do you know how I've managed to stay in power for so long, child?" I shake my head to indicate that I do not. He gestures behind him, and from behind a little girl, 8 to 10 years old, wearing a completely black dress, steps forward.

"This is the seventh member of my Council of War," Nixon declares gleefully. The little girl approaches me with a determined expression on her face as she pulls out a small pocketwatch on a gold chain. Staring at me, she begins swinging the watch in front of my face.

I suddenly realize the source of Nixon's power. This little girl has been hypnotizing his opponents into obeying his commands ever since the Vietnam War. Everyone who has tried to stop him has fallen under his spell. Thinking quickly, I avert my eyes and scramble to remove my own watch. Brandishing it triumphantly, I wave it in front of the little girl's face to try to counter her hypnosis with my own. To my surprise, she becomes very upset by this, and starts crying.

"You hurt my daughter's feelings," Nixon accuses me before cackling again. "Two can play at this game!"

He removes his own watch and starts swinging it in my direction. Somehow, though, Nixon's watch doesn't hypnotize people. Instead it causes things to explode. The potted plant near me does just that, followed by the table directly in front of me. The Council of War has fled the office, but I am not afraid. Instead, I am just very annoyed at him.

"What do you think you're doing?" I shout at him. "You're supposed to be the President!"

Abashed, Nixon looks like a chastised schoolboy, looking down in shame. "But I'm just trying to do what's best for America..." he whines.

Suddenly I am overcome by compassion, and I genuinely feel sorry for Hypno-Nixon (I start calling him this for some reason). I suddenly feel compelled to reveal to him the secret of the universe. "I'm sorry, but it doesn't even matter, Hypno-Nixon, since this is all a dream anyway."

Stunned, he collapses back into his chair. "It's all a dream? You mean I'm not real?"

"Well, you were a real President, but I think you only had one or two terms," I tell him.

"But...everything I accomplished since then...it's all imaginary?"

"Yeah. I don't think you really have hypnosis powers, either."

He simply sits there, solemnly, for a moment before brightening up slightly and saying, "But at least you'll remember me. I'll be alive in your memories. That's something, isn't it? Even if I die, you'll remember me."

I am overcome by inexplicable grief. Sure, the real Nixon was a terrible president, but this guy wasn't so bad, was he? I mean sure, he was violent, and crazy, and controlled the country with evil hypnosis powers, and was possibly immortal, but he really thought he was doing what's best for the country. Still, I had to tell him the truth, "Honestly, I don't even know if I'll remember this dream in the morning. Most of the details will be lost within a week, and I probably won't remember anything at all a year from now. I'm sorry."

I'm in tears. I couldn't save Hypno-Nixon, or his daughter, or anyone else in this dream world. They're all doomed because I have to wake up eventually. I resolve to try to stay in this dream as long as possible.

Then I woke up.

This is where you get to tell me that there is something wrong with my brain. Laughing

two hilarious dreams to share, and one thing to say about my own lucids:

last night i had a dream i was in the sixties and i was a big haired blonde who was married and when i went to a friends dinner party in this mod, orange and yellow home, i pulled my husband (someone i've NEVER seen before) into the guest bedroom and he started yelling at me about how all i ever want to do is... (YAKNOW) bounce , and how our friends will know what we're doing because we're the kind of couple that would sneak away to...!

i had NO idea what thats about, because i dont want to get married, i looked like a chalies angel, and i've never seen this guy before, so I STAND CORRECTED! hahaha

the night before i was really heartbroken, this guy i've had a thing for a bout a year now, i think he just started dating this girl, and i thought we liked each other enough to not date anyone for a while, yaknow. so anyways,

i had this dream that night that he and i were in a clothing store (most likely because i work in one) and some girl picks out a shirt for him, and he starts to get fatter and fatter and he tells her, "i dont think it'll fit"
so then he starts talking to this really sleezy cigar bar mid-aged dude in a suit (think BIG from sex in the city if any of you've seen it) tongue and then he leaves, so when i go up to the guy i like he tells me, "what do you think of phillip?" and i turn to the cigar-bar guy and i flat out say "i don't like him at all." No and the guy i like keeps getting fatter and fatter and then when i turn to look at him, he changed into my old boss (who was a heavy lady) and she says "i could get you a date with him, hes REALLY easy."

affraid
hahahahahahahaha
it might be safe to say my dreams are telling me some thing is missing from my life. What a Face

my lucid dreams arent all to the point which i can control them, i think in some weird way, all my dreams are lucid in the sense that my conscious mind won't let my subconscious put me through bad or hurtful dreams - no matter how awful my dreams, they always end in a happy or funny way. they can be REALLY morbid, but for the most part - funny. i'll give an example later

I love you

And ohhh that sucks. About that guy you like. I've had that happen to me. I sympathize.

I've been thinking about Dream Dictionaries lately, and how they never seem to make much sense and sometimes they make me angry. I guess it's because dreams are so personal that it seems like there's no way any set of symbols can mean the same things for every dreamer. Duh, right?

Still... um, can anyone help with this one? I dreamed that an injured, bloody hawk fell screaming out of the sky into my yard and died. There were feathers everywhere. It seems like a very clear symbol for something and it's kind of distressing. >.>; I think I'll go read some online dream dictionaries just in case.

Part of the reason I love this comic so much is that I've had the same thing happen to me - I've fallen in love in a dream and then been devastated when I woke up.
Well it's not really me dreaming, but it's currently me in real life. But not quite the same but it has many themes from Yu+Me though. Like how I felt before, the whole "grey-ness" from the beginning I felt and then I met my girlfriend and how everything feels as though it's "colored". And then she just explained to me how her family is catholic and how us being together is a secret...

I mean, there's tons more to this, but I don't wanna spam, just felt like sharing...

------------

And hmm, a dream to add to the thread? Well there's this one funny dream I always seem to have in one form or another, where I'm in this REALLY badly drawn anime with REALLY bad dubbing (like the character's mouth doesn't fit what he's saying in english and then his keeps on moving? Yeah that bad) And I'm supposed to be a magic-sword girl (think of it as Revolutionary Girl Utena and Sailor Moon's love-child) and I'm fighting this pink dragon that always seems to have a creepy male drunkard voice (even though it's clearly a girl) and the ending varies from me riding the dragon, or it turning it into a sleeping-beauty dragon-fight sequence... but yeah...

I started getting this dream from 5th grade and it re-occurs til to this day, but lately I haven't been getting it and all my dreams have been quite naughty *cough* Embarassed.

Two of my strangest dreams:

Um... okay. So it was right before my brother got married. And I had a dream where we were getting ready to go to the wedding and my 17 year old niece shows up... with Carrot Top! And he had this gum for my mom.. but it was the wrong kind and Easter flavored. So we had to give her sample packs. And then we went to a vintage clothing store to buy outfits for the wedding. Then... instead of going to the wedding, we went out for Chinese food.

I wrote a song about it.

The second dream is strange only because it's almost normal. As I've stated, I'm a huge Lynn Flewelling fan. Her Nightrunner series is my favorite book series. So it isn't so odd that I once dreamed about the main characters... it's just the way I dreamed about them.

I was sitting in a restaurant and across the way from me are Alec and Seregil... just, y'know, enjoying their food. That was it. Very odd.

Hey! I just stayed up all night. I'm ready to pass out. Woohoo!

Has anyone ever had those dreams where you're at work? I get those sometimes. I unload trucks at Wal-Mart and every now and then I dream about a never ending stream of boxs coming down the snake. (Thats what we call the convayer belt we use in the trucks to get the freight out.) Kind of freaky really.

I get a lot of weird dreams. Some of my favorites that I can remember: The one I had as kid where I was investigating a plane crash. ( don't ask me to explain that one, I'm still trying to figure out why at age seven or eight I was dreaming about that kind of thing) The one where I was in the Wizard of Oz. The Sci-Fi dream where I was in a sword fighting tournament on a space station and my main rival was a blind girl armed with a rapier. This one was one of the most vivid I've ever had and probally my top favorite.

Whoa. Blind girl with a rapier? I think I've met one of those too. >.>;

I haven't dreamed about work yet. I DID dream that a bunch of rusty and jagged metal scraps from work somehow ended up in the room where my rabbit lives, and she was getting injured. I know what that was about, because I do worry that she'll find some scrap of metal that falls off my shoe or something, and eat it. Bunnies are like toddlers that way.

As far as weird dreams go... man, I don't know where to begin. Some quick favorites:

1. I met a giant subterranean space alien who spoke telepathically in sign language. He said his name was "Digger of Great Tunnels from Seev who Stirs the Dirt".

2. I met Lobster, the goddess of eating lobster. She was a singing butter dish. Later I met her sister Damn, the goddess of failure.

3. Garden sprinklers possessed by demons chased me around my house. I finally defeated them by throwing salt at them.

4. A swarm of tiny licorice candies shaped like monkeys tried to kill my friend. Shocked

5. I was the Moose Guardian of the Forest. Anyone needing assistance from a moose could summon me by standing on a special ledge and singing the Moose Summoning Spell.

Shocked The blind girl with the rapier must be one of those Jungian Collective Unconscious symbols, or something, because I remember a dream a few years back with the same sort of character.

I just had the most vivid dream a couple of hours ago and the details are so clear right now I don't wanna ruin my chance to explain it Razz. So here goes~

So in this dream I'm supposed to have a daughter that is in some rythmic-gymnastic competition which makes us stay in this motel-like apartment (I say apartment since we had no roomservice, no maids to clean up the place, and no complimentary soaps n' stuff that you'd expect one to have) and my appearance changes from dream to dream, all I know in the begginning is that I have black straight hair and glasses and I'm caucasian (which is weird since I'm really tan-brown skinned XD). The place where we watch her in the competition is like walking distance from where we're at and so that makes us walk down to there but all of a sudden I see this plump woman with strawberry-blonde curly hair and the next thing is that we're dating, and then after that I see a person that looks like my ex-girlfriend we talk for a bit and then I see a girl that's really pretty with long hair and long-cut bangs walking past me and before I know it I'm pursing her and my appearance changes to an african-american with relaxed hair that's ut and the end of my neck and straight bangs like her, and I'm talking to some guy (I don't remember what he looks like) and in the middle of the sequence all of a sudden the picture freezes and the File-menu bar drops and the option "exit" is clicked and that's when I wake up O.O.

I think this dream was loosly based on dating-sims only it's for lesbians instead of guys getting girls Razz. It just really shows that I play these too many times XD. But I can't help but to wonder whether this one was actually trying to tell me something or not :/.

Okay, so last night I had a really normal but still very odd dream.

As dreams usually go, I was dreaming about something completely unrelated, something to do with Jack and Daxter, I think, when I found myself in front of a house in a suburban neighborhood. Just who's house, you ask? None other than that of my friend Jill, who lives with her parents in P-town, MI (way way up there), and who is sister to our very own Laura. I see a blond woman facing away from me, bouncing up and down on her heels and doing something productive, i don't remember what. Thinking it was Laura, and being pleasantly surprised to see her, I went up and I said "Hi!" all enthusiastically. Turns out it wasn't Laura, it was her mother, whom I've met once in my life briefly, and who looked nothing like what she did in my dream. She looked like a temp at the office where I work on campus, who isn't blond. Apparently dream Jill and Laura's mom is only blond from behind. She smiled and said hi, and that I must be Mike. I found this odd, as I did not think she was expecting me. Then Jill and Laura's four year old brother came running out and tackled me and hugged me. This was even more odd, as Jill and Laura do not have a little brother. Flattered but a little freaked out, I pushed him off of me and got up as Jill came out of the house. She asks if I'm ready to go and I say yes, and Jill, her father and mother, and I get into her car. Jill's driving, her dad's in the passenger seat and I'm in the back with her mom/temp from my work, who keeps smiling at me coyly. I mention how we'd never met, and she said we had, once, back at Jill and I's old dorm. (That much is true, Jill and I did live in the same building last year, and I met her mom when she came to pick her up at the end of the year). We talk about stuff, mainly about how awesome Jill is, and Jill talks about how excited she is to go to Australia (also true). We drive up a big hill and onto a sort of track like a big slide. I think, oh we must be miniature golfing. Because of course, that's what you do at a miniature golf course. But I was mistaken. As the car starts down the slide and is gaining speed, I notice a ramp at the end of it that will send us over the edge. Suddenly the car is small boat, and the four of us shoot up into the air in it, and when the boat goes vertical, we all fall out of it, screaming and laughing. Evidently this is supposed to be fun. I'm terrified, but I shut my eyes and try to act like I'm on a roller coaster or something. We all land in a big, deep pool of water, where many other people were playing and laughing. We resurface, and I laugh to be polite, but, having not forgotten at any point that I am terrified of water (also true), I woke myself up before this could become a true nightmare. I think this was a good call, because I'm pretty sure what happened next was the pool was flushed like a toilet and we all went down the pipe. At least, that was the image in my head as I woke up.

Hahahaha, nice dream Mike. It's always weird to hear about what my dream family does.

@Somnimiles: LOL. I had almost the exact same dream a couple weeks ago. xD
I also dream a lot about looking through web pages of art, and getting really sad because someone else thought of the ideas before me.

Lately I've been having tons of super-realistic dreams - I'm talking "I get up, brush my teeth, and go to work" grade of realism - and it's really annoying because now I can't remember whether I've actually done things or just dreamed them. >.>; Especially things like conversations with friends. I'll be saying, "Yeah, remember, I told you about this yesterday..." and my friend will be saying, "Dude, I haven't talked to you since last week." Embarrassing.
